Fractured finger puts Bangladesh captain Nurul Hasan out of remainder of Zimbabwe tour

Nurul Hasan, Bangladesh’s new T20I captain, was ruled out of the remainder of the Zimbabwe tour following a finger injury during his side’s seven-wicket win in the second T20I in Harare on Sunday. Nurul fractured his left index finger while keeping against fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, according to team physio team Muzadded Alpha Sany. The BCB hasn’t announced the captain for the third T20I but it is likely that Litton Das, who led Bangladesh in a solitary T20I last year, will be the stand-in captain.Related

Nurul continued as a wicketkeeper but looked to be struggling in pain.Nurul was made captain for the T20I series against Zimbabwe following a change in leadership that saw Mahmudullah, the former captain, being rested from this series. Bangladesh bounced back from a 17-run defeat in the first T20I to win the second game convincingly, and level the series 1-1.Bangladesh will play the third and the final T20I on Tuesday, which will be followed by three ODIs from August, in Harare.

Dan Worrall takes 11 as Surrey close in on title-enhancing victory

Essex undone despite resistance from Browne and Lawrence at The Oval

Unbeaten Division One leaders Surrey need another 76 runs to beat Essex, with eight second innings wickets in hand, after fast bowler Dan Worrall took career-best match figures of 11 for 122 at the Kia Oval.Worrall’s 5 for 66 was Surrey’s stand-out bowling performance for the second time in the game as Essex were dismissed for 208 to leave Rory Burns’ team chasing 161 to record a sixth LV= Insurance County Championship victory of the season.By stumps on day three Surrey had reached 85 for 2, with Burns falling to Simon Harmer’s off spin for a solid 40 when he skied an attempted slog-sweep to mid wicket and Hashim Amla edging seamer Shane Snater to second slip for 16 three overs from the close. But opener Ryan Patel held firm with a steadfast 22 not out, from 108 balls, after Worrall had followed up his 6 for 56 in Essex’s first innings 271 with another high-class effort in combination with West Indies paceman Kemar Roach, who finished with 3 for 58 for a six-wicket match haul.Resuming on 19 for 2, still 29 runs in arrears, Essex might have lost Tom Westley leg-before to the very first ball of the day, a perfectly-pitched inswinger from Roach. Opener Nick Browne, meanwhile, had added just six to his overnight 9 when he was dropped low down at first slip by Jamie Overton off a disbelieving Roach.Tom Lawes, though, introduced for the 19th over of Essex’s second innings, struck with his sixth ball to have Westley caught behind by a tumbling Ben Foakes for a 52-ball 32, only for Ollie Pope at second slip to grass a relatively simple chance when Dan Lawrence, on 0, edged a sharply rising ball from Overton straight to him at chest height. That miss haunted Surrey for the next 21 overs as Lawrence, despite a nervy start, grew more assured to help Browne add 65 for the fourth wicket either side of lunch and double Essex’s total. Worrall, in particular, troubled both batsmen with his pace and swing but Lawrence also began to take the game to Surrey’s bowlers with a number of fine strokes including a thumping square drive off Lawes, a confident driven boundary through mid off when Worrall overpitched and then another four whipped off his pads against Overton. It was Lawes, the highly-promising 19-year old swing bowler, who started an Essex slump that, from 130 for 3, saw them lose six wickets for 37 runs in just 10 overs as Surrey suddenly scented a quick kill.Browne, wafting at a ball wide of his off stump, edged Lawes to Foakes after battling 101 balls for his 48 and Roach and Worrall then combined to send Essex sliding to 167 for 9.Roach, recalled in place of Lawes, saw Paul Walter (9) drive his loosener straight to Burns at extra cover, a poor shot, and in his next over trapped Matt Critchley leg-before for 8 with an off-cutter.Adam Rossington, Essex’s first innings century-maker, tried to drive Worrall into the offside before he had settled and edged to Overton at first slip to go for 3 and, in that same over, Worrall struck a major blow by having Lawrence lbw for 47, a two-hour innings spanning 99 balls.Three overs later Roach had a third wicket when Snater (3) chipped him weakly to mid on and it was only Harmer’s defiance – featuring a couple of classy on driven fours as well as pulled and cover boundaries off Roach – that left Surrey, who began this round of games 15 points clear of second-placed Hampshire, with a trickier victory target than expected.Eventually, with Harmer unbeaten on 38 from 68 balls, Worrall produced a beauty to hit Jamie Porter’s off stump after the No11 had contributed just 2 from 24 balls to a last wicket partnership of 41.

Gary Ballance apologises for 'racist' language towards Azeem Rafiq

Gary Ballance has issued an unreserved apology for using “racist” language towards Azeem Rafiq when the two were team-mates at Yorkshire.ESPNcricinfo revealed last year that the use of the word “P**i” by a player – subsequently identified as Ballance – when referring to Rafiq had been deemed “banter” by an independent report into allegations of racism at Yorkshire. Ballance at the time expressed his “regret” but said the language used came in the context of “a situation where best friends said offensive things to each other”.Ballance is one of seven individuals at Yorkshire charged by the ECB, alongside the club itself, after an investigation into the revelations that followed Rafiq’s emotional testimony before parliament in November 2021.Related

It was reported by that Ballance and Rafiq spoke earlier this week in a meeting facilitated by the Professional Cricketers’ Association. Ballance, who has not played at all this season due to ongoing mental health issues, subsequently released a statement through Yorkshire.”I have wanted to meet Azeem in person for quite some time, but I had to make sure I was in a good place when I did so,” Ballance said. “Azeem has been through similar mental health challenges and understands why this has taken me a little time.”I apologise unreservedly to Azeem for the words I used when we played together. I did use unacceptable – at times, racist – language. If I had realised how much this hurt Azeem, I would have stopped immediately. That’s why I wanted to meet him this week and be clear in person that I intended no malice. That’s not an excuse, I realise that the language I used was wrong.”I have accepted, from the outset, the words I used were wrong and I hope this statement brings Azeem some comfort. There is no place in our sport for this behaviour and I am determined to play my part in ridding the game from racism and make it more inclusive. To do this we all need to be honest and learn from our past mistakes.”Rafiq told that he had accepted Ballance’s apology and said that his “courage means he is now part of the solution” in the fight against the problem of racism within the game.”From day one of opening up about my experiences, all I ever wanted was acceptance and apologies for what happened,” Rafiq said. “Gary has been brave to admit the truth and I understand why the mental strain has made it difficult for him to make this apology any sooner. Gary must be applauded for his honesty and unreserved apology and must now be allowed to get on with his life.”Ballance has been in action for Yorkshire’s 2nd XI this summer, but his previous first-team appearance came in September 2021. It was reported earlier this month that he was considering switching his international allegiance back to Zimbabwe, the country of his birth, but ESPNcricinfo understands that there has been no contact with Zimbabwe Cricket.

Wolves now consider hijack for "incredible" big name after public fall-out

In a shock move, Wolverhampton Wanderers are now reportedly interested in signing a former Premier League-winning captain for Vitor Pereia’s side as the transfer window nears its deadline.

Wolves transfer news

It’s been a hectic transfer window for those in the Midlands and one that has, ultimately, been full of frustration. With three days remaining, however, they could yet welcome the reinforcements that they so desperately need to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Whether that will see the likes of Kevin Danso arrive remains to be seen, however. Having reportedly agreed personal terms with the defender, Wolves are yet to lure RC Lens into a permanent deal ahead of Monday’s deadline, forcing them to assess their options.

Wolves have never really replaced Neto

In need of another central defender on top of Emmanual Agbadou’s arrival, those at Molineux have reportedly turned towards Danso alternatives such as Thomas Kristensen, who could yet emerge to solve Pereia’s defensive problem in the coming days.

Meanwhile, away from the backline, Wolves have also set their sights on midfield improvements this month and could yet take full advantage of one star man’s recent public fall-out.

According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, Wolves now want to land a shock hijack to sign Jordan Henderson from Ajax after the former England international threatened to never play for the club again and was subsequently stripped of his captaincy amid reports of a move to AS Monaco.

Awkwardly apologising for his regretful actions since, that may not be that for Henderson and Ajax in the closing days of the window with both Wolves and West Ham United reportedly among those interested in hijacking Monaco’s initial attempts.

"Incredible" Henderson needs Premier League return

To say that Henderson has struggled since leaving Liverpool for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in 2023 would be an understatement. Almost instantly regretting his decision to join the Saudi club despite their great riches, the former Anfield captain swiftly joined Ajax just six months later only to enter a side in desperate need of a rebuild and struggling as a result.

Now, just when things are getting better under Francesco Farioli, the 34-year-old has endured a public fall-out to forget in Amsterdam and one that he may yet fail to truly come back from at Ajax.

After failing to complete a move to Monaco, Henderson must use the final days of the transfer window to assess his options and that could yet see Wolves land what is still an incredibly experienced midfielder in a crucial step towards their Premier League survival.

Once dubbed “incredible” by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Henderson could yet end his career in fitting fashion rather than off the back of a nightmare couple of years.

Sky Sports: Ipswich Town exploring move for £95,000-p/w ace with Philogene

Ipswich Town are now exploring a shock move to sign a new face who Pep Guardiola once heralded as “oustanding” this month, a fresh report has revealed.

Ipswich Town transfer news

Currently sitting 18th in the Premier League, Ipswich Town are expected to be busy this January as they look to hand Kieran McKenna players of capable of helping the East Anglian outfit avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The Tractor Boys have already signed defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta, and are in the final stages of a deal to sign Jaden Philogene in a deal potentially worth in excess of £20m.

Philogene, who has been a long term target of McKenna’s, is expected to arrive in the coming days in a bid to add more firepower to Ipswich’s attack, with McKenna’s side having managed just 20 goals so far this campaign, the third fewest in the top flight.

It follows the club failing in their pursuit of Liverpool loanee Ben Doak, who they tabled a £16m offer to sign in the opening days of the transfer window.

They are keen to add yet more firepower too, amid links to both former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and Brazilian forward Igor Jesus, while they have also been long term admirers of Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, all of whom would provide cover and competition to current star man Liam Delap, who leads their goalscoring charts this campaign.

But they also need to add more cover in midfield, and to that end they have begun exploring a shock move.

Ipswich Town exploring Matic move

That comes as Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg reveals that Ipswich and McKenna are now “exploring” a move to sign three-time Premier League winner Nemanja Matic from Lyon this January as they look to bolster their ranks.

Now 36 years old, Matic would bring a wealth of experience to East Anglia, having appeared over 250 times in the English top flight across spells with Chelsea and Manchester United.

And Plettenberg and Sky claim that Ipswich are now exploring a deal alongside several other sides around Europe, with McKenna knowing Matic well from their time working together at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Questions will likely be asked about his mobility, but it was just five years ago that he was the subject of effusive praise from legendary coach Pep Guardiola. “Matic is an outstanding player,” he told the media after a Manchester Derby in 2020.

The exact details of any potential deal remain unclear, but with Matic still having 18 months left to run on his £95,000 a week deal in France, a loan is unlikely, with the 6ft 3 ace having started 12 of the 14 games that he has been available for in Ligue 1 this campaign.

With top-flight experience clearly a key attribute in most of Ipswich’s targets so far this winter, Matic would certainly bring plenty of that. But, with a midfield that already struggles for mobility with Kalvin Phillips and Sam Morsy, would adding a 36-year-old Matic be a good idea?

Big upgrade on Clarke: Sunderland target D-day move for "explosive" PL star

Sunderland fans would have been worried this transfer window that a number of their best players would be poached by higher-up suitors.

Thankfully for the Black Cats, it hasn’t quite played out like that with the likes of Jobe Bellingham set to remain situated at Wearside until the close of the campaign, but young homegrown product Tommy Watson could now be on the move to the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion.

That potential switch is far from being done, however, with Regis Le Bris’ men now wanting a Seagulls star in exchange for allowing the 18-year-old starlet to move to the South Coast.

Latest Sunderland transfer news

As per an update by Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope, Sunderland will only allow for Watson to head to the top flight if they can secure a deal for Brighton winger Simon Adingra to relocate to the Stadium of Light.

Already, Brighton have seen an £8.5m bid be rejected by Le Bris’ outfit, with the promotion hopefuls wanting to pick up Adingra on a loan-to-buy deal to then sanction this switch.

Brighton and Hove Albion forwardSimon Adingra.

This does feel rather far-fetched, but Sunderland have flexed their muscles in the market already this window with the shock swoop of Enzo Le Fee, with this potential deal again seeing them land a significant coup.

If Adingra was to drop down to the Championship, he would likely tear second-tier defences to shreds based on his bright patches of form in the Premier League and could end up being Sunderland’s best option down the left wing since Jack Clarke’s unbelievable spell at the club.

What Adingra could offer Sunderland

After all, whilst Clarke has struggled at the elite level this campaign for Ipswich Town, the Ivorian has managed to toy with many a top-flight defence since joining the Seagulls.

Indeed, the “explosive” attacker – as he has been labelled in the past by football analyst Ben Mattinson – boasts an impressive 12 strikes for his current employers from 59 clashes, with six of those coming during his debut Premier League season as skills and tricks aplenty were on show.

Whilst Adingra continues to impress at the very top of the English game, Clarke has faded into the background somewhat at Portman Road since his summer arrival, with zero league goals next to his name and just two assists.

This really shows the major gulf in quality between the Premier League and the division below as Clarke picked up a standout 15 strikes last season for the Black Cats, meaning Adingra could make the second tier his very own playground on his potential statement arrival.

The table above more than demonstrates the fact that Adingra has been a rip-roaring success wherever he’s been so far across his well-travelled playing days, with a stunning 46 goals and assists next to his name starring in Belgium and Denmark alerting Brighton.

Therefore, he would unlikely be fazed by a switch to Wearside occurring with Sunderland seriously improving their attacking options if this move was to get done, especially with Jayden Danns all but guaranteed now to join on loan as another exciting recruit.

If this was finalised before the 11pm deadline, Sunderland would arguably be the big winners of the window in the Championship, even if Watson packs his bags.

Bringing Adingra and Danns into the fold would certainly be a real boost for the remainder of the season…

Another Kulusevski: Spurs want to sign "unreal" PL star before the deadline

Tottenham Hotspur have been quiet during the January transfer window this month, only making one senior addition in the form of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who joined from Slavia Prague a couple of weeks ago.

However, Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy appear to have ramped up their efforts to land reinforcements before the window closes on Monday night, with Mathys Tel having looked the most likely to move to North London in the coming days.

Spurs already agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for the 19-year-old, but the teenager has reportedly rejected the proposal, handing the Lilywhites a real blow late in the window.

Owner Levy travelled to Munich on Friday afternoon to try and progress the deal, although those efforts appear to have been in vain, with the club now looking to other targets instead.

With that in mind, efforts could be ramping up to land another attacking talent before the window closes until the summer.

Spurs plotting move to land £55m PL star

According to The Express, Spurs are plotting a move for Southampton attacker Tyler Dibling to further improve their forward line in the coming days.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a superb breakout campaign despite the Saints’ struggles in 2024/25, scoring twice in 20 appearances, but catching the eye with his direct and fearless nature.

Southampton's Tyler Dibling celebrates scoring their first goal with Southampton'sKyleWalker-Peters

The report claims that the winger has emerged as a serious target, with the north Londoners ideally wanting to secure a move this month rather than the summer, with his current side desperate to keep hold of him until the end of the season at least.

It also states that Spurs youngster Tyrese Hall has been discussed internally at St Mary’s to be included in any potential deal which would see Dibling move to North London – with Postecoglou wanting to loan out the youngster this window.

However, it’s previously been reported that the Saints are holding out for a fee in the region of £55m for the teenager, as they look to fend off any interest from the likes of the Lilywhites.

Any move could see the Englishman follow in the footsteps of one player who’s thrived at the club in recent times after his own winter transfer to North London.

Why Dibling could be another Kulusevski for Spurs

Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski has been a shining light through what has proved to be a disappointing campaign for the club to date, often being the man to make things happen in attacking areas.

The 24-year-old has registered 18 combined goals and assists throughout 2024/25 to date, a tally that is his highest since completing his move to the club back in January 2022.

This campaign has even seen Kulusevski shift into a more central role on occasions to help boss Postecoglou cope with the injury crisis – but he’s taken to the role like a duck to water.

Undoubtedly, he’s now one of the first names on the teamsheet for Spurs on a regular basis, with it being hard to imagine where the side might be if it hadn’t been for his contributions.

However, any move for Dibling could see the club land another version of the former Juventus talent, with the Southampton star very similar to Kulusevski in terms of their favoured foot, ability to feature centrally or out wide and their creative nature.

When comparing their respective stats from 2024/25, the teenager has matched or bettered the Swede in various key areas, highlighting how much of an impressive addition he would be to the side.

Dibling, who’s previously been dubbed an “unreal talent” by analyst Ben Mattinson, may have registered slightly fewer combined goals and assists but has bettered the current first-team star for take-ons completed, subsequently achieving a better success rate – offering Ange the direct threat that he’s been missing as of late.

He’s also registered slightly more shots per 90, whilst matching Kulusevski for shots on target per 90, demonstrating he has that end product to match his mazy runs and powerful sprints with the ball at his feet.

£55m may seem like a huge investment for such a young talent who’s only just broken through into the first team and started to make his mark in the Premier League.

However, if he’s producing such impressive figures at such a tender age, it’s a scary thought of how good he could become should he follow in the Swede’s footsteps at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kuldeep hat-trick, Shaw 48-ball 77 the highlights as India A claim series

Rachin Ravindra, Joe Carter score fifties but find little support from others as India A romp home with 16 overs to spare

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Sep-2022Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket burst, which included a hat-trick, backed up by Prithvi Shaw’s 48-ball 77 headlined India A’s comfortable four-wicket win over New Zealand A in the second unofficial ODI in Chennai. With this win, India A took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.Batting first, the visitors lost Chad Bowes in the sixth over to Umran Malik. Dane Cleaver fell soon after, but Rachin Ravindra held fort with a 65-ball 61. Rishi Dhawan then got into the act sending back Ravindra and captain Robert O’Donnell in the space of three balls as New Zealand A slipped to 106 for 4 that soon became 133 for 5 with Raj Bawa removing Tom Bruce.Joe Carter, who has been excellent all through this tour, kept fighting. He struck one four and three sixes in his 72 off 80 balls but found little support from the other end. He added 57 runs for the sixth wicket with Sean Solia, but once Carter fell to Rahul Chahar in the 42nd over, New Zealand A folded quickly. Kuldeep claimed a hat-trick, removing New Zealand A’s last three batters – Logan van Beek caught by Shaw, Joe Walker caught behind by Sanju Samson and Jacob Duffy out lbw – to wrap up the innings on 219.Already behind in the game, New Zealand A suffered even further as Shaw came out swinging. The opener smashed 11 fours and three sixes during his knock, adding 82 runs for the first wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad, and 49 more for the second wicket with Rajat Patidar.India A did lose their way a bit in the middle, slipping from 131 for 1 to 134 for 4 with Patidar, Shaw, and Tilak Varma falling in the space of nine balls. However, Samson and Dhawan took the hosts forward with a 46-run stand before Shardul Thakur’s 24-ball 25 not out provided the finishing touches. The third and final game of the series will take place at the same venue on Tuesday.
