Wolves fans rip into Ruben Vinagre after West Ham showing

It was a disappointing day at the office to say the least for Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Midlands outfit struggled to get into their stride as they were humiliated by West Ham United at the London Stadium.

A couple of goals from Jarrod Bowen and a pair of headers from Tomas Soucek and Sebastien Haller were enough to settle things on Sunday evening, and for some supporters, there was no doubting who was at fault.

Indeed, Ruben Vinagre was something of a scapegoat for supporters during and after the game as the fanbase pelted him for his performance.

Supporters didn’t hold back when discussing the Portuguese youngster on Twitter.

Others were a little more constructive with their criticism, stating that while Vinagre’s performance was disappointing, he may need to refine his game elsewhere if he is to become a star at Molineux.

There were plenty of supporters calling for the left-footer to be sent out on loan.

Inevitably, others didn’t have such a kind view of things, with a more reactionary section of the fanbase calling for him to immediately be sold, while others posted comments such as ‘leave my club’.

Others were a bit more tactical in their analysis of why Vinagre had such a poor showing, with one consensus being that it’s due to the fact that Romain Saiss was playing at left-centre-back, and the pair’s combined defensive frailties were seemingly a recipe for disaster.

Tottenham Hotspur: Andros Townsend tips Spurs to offload midfielder Tanguy Ndombele

Speaking to talkSPORT (02/09/20, 7:3o), via HITC, ex-Spurs winger Andros Townsend has tipped Daniel Levy to sell midfield star Tanguy Ndombele just one year after the club shelled out a transfer record-breaking £65 million fee – hinting he could stir up a toxic atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ndombele, who started just 12 Premier League games last season, was largely overlooked by manager Jose Mourinho in the latter stages of the season especially – failing to start a single match after the lockdown period.

The Frenchman, currently one of the club’s top earners on £200,000-per-week, has been linked with a move out of Spurs following his omission from the starting eleven – with an exclusive report from the Sun recently claiming he is on the transfer list alongside Serge Aurier and Juan Foyth.

Indeed, he has also not featured in any of the club’s pre-season friendlies so far, and the arrival of ex-Southampton enforcer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg potentially puts even more question marks around his future in north London.

Now, Townsend believes that boss Mourinho may have to sell Ndombele or face the production of a toxic environment due to the player’s unhappiness.

“I have seen it before where the manager has publicly come out and criticised the player. If you keep that player in your squad after criticising him and it keeps festering,” explained the winger to talkSPORT.

“He maybe speaks to his agent saying ‘I need to leave’. He speaks to the chairman saying ‘You spent all this money on me, I need to be playing’.

“It can end up on the player turning the chairman against the manager and maybe, in the end, getting the manager the sack. For Jose Mourinho, if he doesn’t fancy the player he has got to sell him for his own good.”

Even though Ndombele has been on the fringes of Spurs’ plans recently, Mourinho has waxed lyrical over his past performances – once calling him ‘absolutely phenomenal’.

As well as this, ex-gaffer Mauricio Pochettino certainly rated him, labelling his debut ‘fantastic’ after signing the ex-Lyon star – potentially highlighting the notion Ndombele’s ability simply needs to be nurtured.

According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old even averages more completed dribbles than attacker Erik Lamela over his limited appearances, and attempting to sell the midfielder in this financial climate could mean giving him a chance is the club’s best option.

Report: Spurs line up move for 25-goal ace

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Braga striker Paulinho, according to 90min.

Jose Mourinho’s side are in the market for a new striker in the summer as they look to provide support to Harry Kane.

Mourinho admitted earlier this week that he hopes to sign a forward before the transfer deadline in October.

And it appears that Paulinho has been targeted as a possible acquisition.

90min reports that the forward, who scored 25 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions last season, would cost less than £30m and is viewed as an attainable target.

Wolves were previously linked with a move for Paulinho but opted against it, instead signing Fabio Silva from Porto.

And that may have opened the door for Spurs to swoop as they look to finally bolster their forward line.

Spurs had opted against bids for both Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins, the report states, and they instead joined Newcastle and Aston Villa respectively.

A bid could be forthcoming for Paulinho, though, especially after Mourinho addressed the situation in public earlier this week.

New blood is needed; the wait cannot go on.

Spurs have perfect chance to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia

It was a man they wanted back when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, but it appears Tottenham could finally be set to land Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer.

With the current situation affecting the world taking its toll on football clubs too, Spanish giants Valencia appear to be hit harder than most. According to French publication Foot Mercato, their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season, and deepening financial problems, are set to lead to a major firesale of players.

The report claims that Kondogbia is one of the names who is likely to be shown the exit door, and Foot Mercato claim both Spurs and Premier League rivals Manchester United have a keen eye on the midfielder.

It was suggested back in the summer of 2018, that the Lilywhites were interested in Kondogbia, but a deal failed to materialise. But now, two years later, Daniel Levy has the perfect chance to sign the 6 foot 2 man, at a likely lower cost than it would have taken before.

And when you look at the kind of player Spurs would be getting, it seems like it could be one of the smartest signings of the window. Strong and physical, Kondogbia also has very impressive technical ability too, almost in the mould of former Lilywhites favourite Mousa Dembele.

Both are left-footed, and have this natural gift at gliding past players with ease when in their stride. Kondogbia has a career average of 1.4 dribbles per game, whilst Dembele is at 2.4. The duo are also equally capable of getting off a shot on goal, with the former averaging one per match, and the latter 0.8.

With his physicality and height, Kondogbia does seem like the archetypal midfielder Mourinho loves to sign – you only have to look at how he brought Nemanja Matic to Chelsea, and then to Manchester United in his time in charge of both clubs.

And now both Levy and Mourinho could be set to profit thanks to Valencia’s problems.

Three iconic goals that Liverpool fans will never forget

Liverpool and its fans have been waiting patiently for their first ever Premier League title and once football resumes, it looks like the Reds will finally get their wish.

So to highlight the stellar season they’re having, lets open the vault and have a look at some iconic goals that have created history…

Steven Gerrard vs West Ham (2006 FA Cup final)

The Reds’ most recent FA Cup to date was won in truly spectacular style. As the clock ticked down, Liverpool were trailing 3-2 to the Irons who had one eye and indeed, one hand on the trophy. Until the hero of the hour struck on the cusp of full-time and netted a goal that fans will never be able to forget.

The skipper sent a magnificent strike hurtling into the back of the net from outside the box. A goal that maybe wouldn’t have happened without Gerrard carrying an injury, after he admitted he ‘gambled’ with the attempt because he was too tired to run with the ball.

The goal forced extra time, after which the Reds snatched what looked a certain victory from West Ham and lifted the cup after winning 3-1 on penalties.

Divock Origi vs Barcelona (2019 Champions League semi-final)

Corner taken quickly… ORIGI!

Arguably the most iconic comeback in European history and indeed one of Liverpool’s most important wins.

After taking a 3-0 thrashing at Camp Nou, Jurgen Klopp’s side already looked down and out – with little hope resting on the second semi-final leg at Anfield. But a dream was born and the men in red were determined to recreate the club’s most famous European night… an unbelievable 4-0 win took Liverpool into the final where they eventually went on to lift their sixth Champions League trophy.

Alexander-Arnold’s delivery and Origi’s finish to find Liverpool’s fourth goal has etched itself into the history books forever. Has the Anfield win overtaken that night in Istanbul?

Steven Gerrard vs Olympiacos (2005 Champions League – Group A)

Another European evening in the history books and another astonishing comeback to create one of the club’s most successful seasons. The Reds looked as though they wouldn’t make it out of Europe’s group stage, with their position in the competition resting solely on their second meeting with the Greek outfit.

After a goal from Rivaldo, Liverpool needed three to secure their progression into the knockouts. Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor netted the first two before the captain hammered the nail in the coffin. Gerrard’s late strike was enough to send his side into the Round of 16 in superb fashion, onwards to become eventual champions of Europe for the first time since 1984.

Not only did the Merseyside local help create history with the club, but his goal was the birth of some truly iconic commentary.

Tottenham ace Son could go the same way as Eden Hazard

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Heung-Min Son could be Jose Mourinho’s next Eden Hazard.

Tottenham Hotspur made a major change earlier this week, sacking Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday evening and replacing him with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid boss less than 12 hours later.

Mourinho, of course, has a winner’s pedigree. He has won a major trophy at every club he has managed since his time with Porto, where he won the Champions League.

Yet he had something of a blind spot during his second tenure at Chelsea: Hazard.

The Belgium international, so sparkling in his last season at Chelsea, never quite produced his absolute best under Mourinho.

Indeed, he reached his zenith with the Blues in 2016/17 and again in 2018/19. He scored 16 league goals in both of those seasons and finished the latter with 15 assists.

Under Mourinho, his numbers were never quite so high.

In both 2013/14 and 2014/15, he scored 14 goals in the league, a respectable tally that was combined with a total of 19 assists.

While in 15/16, the stats fell off a cliff.

Admittedly, this was the Portuguese’s final season at Stamford Bridge but in 16 Premier League games, Hazard didn’t score a single goal.

He did provide three assists but this was a player who was struggling to play for his manager, as he played primarily as a left winger. In those first 16 games, Chelsea won just four times.

And while Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri very much set up their teams to get the absolute best out of Hazard – the former essentially giving him a free role in a 3-4-3 setup – Mourinho made his feelings on the attacker’s duties clear after a loss to Atletico Madrid in 2014.

After Hazard failed to track back for one of the goals, the Portuguese said: “He’s not the kind of player to sacrifice himself for the team.

“Eden is the kind of player that is not so mentally ready to look back to his left-back and to leave his life for him. If you see the first goal of Atlético you completely understand where the mistake was and why we conceded that goal. The perfect team at the top level cannot make these kinds of mistakes.”

That gives a pretty clear indication of the shackles Mourinho placed on his biggest attacking threat.

The parallel with Son in terms of playing style, rated at £72m by Transfermarkt, is clear. Both players love to dribble and cut inside from the flank and score.

The South Korea international has become a global star during his time at Spurs and is clearly an exceptional presence on the left flank.

After a slow start in 15/16, in which he scored four league goals, he hit 14 in 16/17 and 12 in the two following. Thus far this season, he already has three league goals in 10 appearances.

But the question, here, is how Mourinho will utilise him. Will he be allowed to drift between central and wide positions, to sneak a yard on his full-back and find space on the counter-attack, or will he be expected to track back like Hazard was?

[ad_pod ]

If he wants the same from Son, he risks blunting his attacking edge, as Mourinho eventually did with Hazard.

It is a tight rope that he will have to walk, as the 27-year-old is Spurs’ second-best attacker after Harry Kane.

Turning him into the defensive winger he tried to mould Hazard into can only go badly.

Arsenal fans reminisce over Patrick Vieira’s last game for the club

Although Arsenal’s current predicament under Unai Emery may seem a far cry from previous eras of success at the club, these fans have been loving a video released regarding a former player’s final game in north London.

Patrick Vieira, who won three Premier League titles and three FA Cups during a nine-year spell at the club, wrote his name into the Gunners’ history books having made over 300 league appearances.

The Frenchman’s time with the club coincided with their most successful period in the modern era, and there can be no doubting that with Arsenal having won just four of their first 12 league fixtures in the 2019/20 campaign, these fans would love to see a return of their former captain in a bid to revitalise their domestic fortunes.

Following the release of a video showing Viera’s last game for the club, these fans have been singing his praises.

Here are some of the best reactions to the Frenchman’s finale in north London.

Leeds fans wax lyrical about Mateusz Klich after fantastic stats emerge

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been praising Mateusz Klich after his fine performance against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Stats posted on social media by @LUFCDATA show just how impressive the Pole was on Sunday.

Indeed, the numbers show that he was prolific in terms of creating chances as he completed more passes in the final third than any other player on the pitch.

Fans were quick to wax lyrical about the 29-year-old after seeing these statistics, and it’s rather nice to see him being given some credit after receiving a little bit of criticism in recent weeks with calls to rest him.

This performance couldn’t have come at a better time either as the Poland international has just signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal, and he’s immediately shown why the club wanted to tie him down to a long-term contract.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Leeds director’s quotes make a move for Baghdad Bounedjah far fetched

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

It’s that time of the year again where little transfer tidbits begin circulating about almost every club in the country.

Of course, Leeds United are no different in that regard, and the Whites fanbase will likely have seen the recent reports that their summer transfer target Baghdad Bounedjah will now be available for half of the €15m (£12.9m) fee that was once demanded for his services.

However, the key thing at this time of the year is to separate the true transfer reports away from the nonsense that is published every day.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Unfortunately for the Whites, this report is rather difficult to believe.

Firstly, Leeds simply don’t have the power to spend money in January.

Victor Orta recently stated that permanent deals weren’t feasible because of their financial situation and thus, any paid transfer will likely have to be put on the back burner – especially given Leeds’ £40m wage level.

While they might be able to afford him next summer, rumours of a move in the imminent future are surely wide of the mark.

Meanwhile, the striker had an asking price of the aforementioned value for a reason, and after netting seven goals after five league games this season why on earth would that valuation be cut in half?

It’s not as if Al-Sadd are a poor club that needs the money either.

This is the Qatari team that apparently paid Xavi €10m (£8.65m) a year during his time as a player there.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the club’s chairman is a member of the Qatari royal family, so it’s a given that they’re not short on cash.

Find out a how a world-record-holding freestyler got on with the worst football in the world in the video below…

Now, we don’t want to discredit any news outlet, but the fact that the original report came from Algerian outlet Competition isn’t the most encouraging of signs.

Leeds fans should certainly take these rumours with more than a pinch of salt as the factors surrounding the story simply don’t add up.

Orta’s comments are fine evidence of that.
