Real Madrid fans take to Twitter to praise Daniel Carvajal

Real Madrid are in a rather weird phase right now.

Even though their La Liga form is on the rise and Zinedine Zidane’s troops are occupying the very top of the table, things are not really going their way in the Champions League.

Their latest venture left them with only a point for their efforts as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Club Brugge.

Interestingly enough, that game was also Daniel Carvajal’s 50th appearance in the Champions League for the club.

In that time, he has scored one goal, registered 10 assists and won four trophies.

And just recently, a number of fans swarmed social media and Twitter and posted lots of messages of support for their “unsung hero”, who is also known as an “underrated” player within their squad.

It seems that Carvajal still has a big section of fans among the Madridistas.

Liverpool’s Adrian receives praise from three top pundits

[ad_pod ]Sometimes in football, you just have to admit that you’ve seen something brilliant. The beautiful game is nicknamed as such because moments on the pitch can literally take your breath away, and on Tuesday evening we were lucky enough to see one of those moments.Liverpool’s Adrian made an incredible save to keep the score at 0-0 early in the second half, and that led to a number of pundits taking to Twitter to praise the Spaniard.

These football experts couldn’t help but express their admiration for his heroics.

Chris Sutton, Gary Lineker and Matt Le Tissier all took to social media to pay tribute to the save.

Unfortunately, Adrian’s moment of glory was futile as Liverpool would go on to lose the game 2-0.

However, that doesn’t mean this moment was any less brilliant. The former West Ham man was making his Champions League debut after becoming a starter for Liverpool due to Alisson’s injury, and he’ll surely never forget this stunning stop.

Sheffield Wednesday fans debate Julian Borner’s accolade

[ad_pod ]

The Championship season got underway in August and Sheffield Wednesday have had to play no fewer than eight matches – that’s pretty much two per week.

They sit 11th in the table having won three and lost three, whilst they have also progressed into the third round of the Carabao Cup, setting up a tie with Everton at Hillsborough.

Following online votes, centre-back Julian Borner managed to clinch the Player of the Month award for August, leaving many fans in south Yorkshire reacting to the news.

One supporter claimed it was deserved, stating that Kadeem Harris was the only other decent option out of a bad bunch.

The 28-year-old is a new arrival at the club having joined from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer and has played every single minute in the Championship this season.

Another fan said it was never in doubt whilst one more member of the Hillsborough faithful believed that Atdhe Nuhiu had been robbed of the award.

Wednesday will be hoping for a better start in September as Lee Bullen’s men have lost three of their last four matches after what looked to be a strong start.

However, they’ll have to wait another week or so as the international break is currently on the agenda.

West Ham paying Albian Ajeti just £30k-per-week

[ad_pod ]

Football FanCast’s News articles summarise the biggest stories in world football, based on information from other sources.

Albian Ajeti is earning £30,000-per-week at West Ham United after completing his move to the club, per ClaretandHugh.

What’s the word?

The striker was confirmed as the club’s latest summer signing on Thursday morning.

He has signed a four-year contract in east London and ClaretandHugh claims that he has agreed to a weekly wage of £30k.

That is significantly less than the wages earned by Javier Hernandez; Spotrac claims that he is the highest-paid player at the London Stadium with a wage of £140,000-per-week.

Nevertheless, Ajeti scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and is a full Switzerland international.

A low-cost, low-risk addition

This is unlikely to go wrong for the Hammers.

A separate ClaretandHugh report claims that the club have paid £11m in total for the 22-year-old.

A player with a high upside – his scoring record at Basel has been exceptional, with 43 goals in 96 outings – he is earning a fraction of the highest-paid players at West Ham and he could still have a major impact in east London.

Indeed, Manuel Pellegrini’s squad was rather thin, with just Sebastian Haller and Javier Hernandez as his striking options.

With the addition of Ajeti, the striking department looks well-stocked, and at a rather low cost too.

Everton fans slam Morgan Schneiderlin’s performance in the 0-0 draw vs Crystal Palace

[ad_pod ]

Some Everton fans have taken to Twitter to slam Morgan Schneiderlin, after the midfielder put in a poor performance against Crystal Palace in the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Frenchman was largely ineffective having completed zero tackles and having not had a single shot throughout the game – to make matters worse, he was given his marching orders after a late lunge on Luka Milivojevic earned him a second yellow card.

The Toffees were probably fortunate to get a point after the Eagles missed two one-on-one chances courtesy of Jordan Ayew and Max Meyer, and the 29-year-old’s woeful showing probably didn’t help their chances of picking up three points.

The 6 foot 1 midfielder will now miss the game against Watford next weekend – judging by his form against Palace, that’ll probably be considered a boost by Marco Silva.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

Let’s see what some Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about the Frenchman…

Liverpool: Harvey Elliot steal is one for the future

Liverpool are to sign England under-17s midfielder Harvey Elliot this summer, according to the Telegraph.

After claiming the Champions League trophy last month, Jurgen Klopp has introduced just one player to Liverpool’s squad. One for the future Dutch defender Sepp van der Berg is the German’s only addition so far this summer, but the German boss might be about to add another prodigy to his ranks in the form of Fulham’s Elliot.

As per the Telegraph, Elliot, the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League (having made his debut aged 15 years and 174 days), is to join Liverpool this summer after months of being linked to some of the biggest and best clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

In ESPN’s report of the deal, they claim the club’s thinking this summer involves the retention of current talent over squad reconstruction, while ‘snapping up’ young talents.

The Liverpool Echo have described the attacking midfielder as a versatile player who is “not shy when it comes to launching an attack and scoring goals,” with five goals and three assists to his name for the under-18 side in 12 appearances last season.

While expecting him to come in and fill a creative void (one pointed out by Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph) since Philippe Coutinho departed at his young age would perhaps be too much, potentially winning a transfer battle for a player courted by other members of the European elite would be another sign the Reds are returning to the top, with Miguel Delaney already suggesting the Champions League win had restored their super-club status.

Already champions of Europe, it seems the Reds’ apparent plan to secure young talents to get their house in order for the years to come is underway.

Brighton: Lewis Dunk leaving for so much money isn’t a bad thing

Club legend and captain Lewis Dunk is nearing a move away from Brighton for a whopping £45million.

The Sun have reported that the Seagulls centre-back will be the successor to Harry Maguire at Leicester, who is being linked with an £80million move to Manchester United.

The 27-year-old has seen a lot during his spell with Brighton. The captain was born in the town and has been at the club since he was a youth player and has played exclusively for the club barring a loan spell at Bristol City in 2013.

For context, Dunk made his debut for Albion alongside Tommy Elphick versus MK Dons in 2010 in League One when Brighton played at the Withdean Stadium, with a limited capacity of just 8,850 fans. Not even a decade on, he is captaining a Brighton side who are competing in their third successive season in the Premier League, averaging an attendance of 30,426, and he also made his England debut in November last year.

Dunk leaving the club will be huge for Brighton. We take a look at whether they will be able to replace the defender.

The Brighton defender has been a stalwart for the club and would be a huge loss if he were to leave. He is the first name on the team sheet and has only missed two Premier League games since the club got promoted, which speaks volumes about his importance to the side – not only as a player, but as a leader.

His defensive stats appear lower than his counterpart Shane Duffy, averaging less blocks, clearances and interceptions, though he does provide more tackles. Dunk is much better with the ball at his feet, with the second highest passing accuracy in the squad with 82.8 per cent – more than seven per cent more than Duffy.

He averages a lot more long balls than Duffy, has the second highest amount of average passes per game in the squad and averages more key passes.

WhoScored appears to favour Duffy to Dunk for performances last season, with Duffy having an average rating of 7.11 and Dunk an average of 6.72.

Duffy is a serious threat from set-pieces so they will still have that next season, as his five goals for the season shows.

With Potter looking to change the way they play, perhaps losing Dunk isn’t the worst thing that could happen for them. If they can bring a defender for a lot less money who can play with the ball at his feet – perhaps someone such as Alfie Mawson – then it will suit the club.

Pundit and ex-Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp clearly rates the Brighton defender, as he suggested in May that he would be a good fit for Arsenal and exactly what they need. He told The Daily Mail: “Brighton’s Lewis Dunk defended like a warrior and would be an upgrade on any of the centre halves at the Emirates.

“He may not be the most easy on the eye but he just loves the art of defending.

“He is exactly what this Arsenal team needs.”

It would obviously be upsetting for Brighton to see such an important player leave the club, but with the money they’re getting for him they might be quietly pleased.

He is 27-years-old meaning that there is limited room for him to grow as a footballer and Potter is looking to adapt the way they will be playing.

Indeed, they might now have a bigger transfer kitty for the new boss to work his magic wand with, which could go a long way for him to recruit players that can play with his more expansive and possession based football.

Brighton fans, would you be happy with such a large amount of money for Dunk? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Manchester United: Inter really do want Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan are to table their best offer possible in an attempt to secure Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku.

News emerged at the weekend that both clubs were prepared to sit down and discuss ‘face-to-face’ the possibility of Romelu Lukaku completing his Old Trafford exit, as per Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is said that the objective of the meeting is ‘closure’ – presumably to ensure what could be a lengthy and arduous process comes to an end as soon as possible thus allowing the two sides to prepare for their respective campaigns properly.

Gazzetta dello Sport go on to suggest that, within the week, Inter Milan and Beppe Marotta will ‘blitz’ the market and present Manchester United with an offer they hope will convince the Reds to release Lukaku.

The Belgian forward said that a move to Serie A would be a dream to Sky Italia back in April and did appear to lose his starting spot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer towards the end of last season, with Marcus Rashford largely operating as the central striker.

Harbouring players who have no desire to stay at the club would be a poor move on United’s part. Even if it means lowering their reported £75million asking price so Inter Milan have the means to pay.

Rumours have already surfaced that Solskjaer is chasing Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored 18 goals in 31 La Liga appearances last season, with Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervion going as far to say that the club have already agreed personal terms on the switch.

Manchester United fans, do you agree Lukaku should be sold? Let us know in the comments below…

Transfer Focus: QSI could be Leeds’ saving grace as Spurs eye Jack Clarke

[ad_pod ]

According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Tottenham are likely to submit a low offer for Jack Clarke in an attempt to sign the youngster on the cheap.

It had previously been reported that Leeds have slapped a £20m pricetag on the 18-year-old’s head, and they mustn’t let him go for anything less than that.

Can’t let Levy control the deal

Daniel Levy has proven during his tenure as the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur that he is one of the most difficult men in English football to negotiate with.

Spurs historically aren’t big spenders, and it should come as no surprise that they are attempting to lowball Leeds in this deal for Clarke, but Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani can’t allow themselves to be ripped off when selling their prize asset.

QSI curveball

A huge curveball could be thrown at this potential deal with the reported investment from Qatar Sports Investments at Elland Road.

Leeds’ money worries would be hugely alleviated by investment from PSG’s owners, and Spurs would no longer have the power over Clarke’s future.

If QSI provide the Yorkshire club with funds in the upcoming transfer window, Orta and Radrizzani would be able to stand firm on their £20m valuation of the youngster as they would have no reason to sell him for a penny less than what he is worth.

For all the excitement around the potential arrival of new billionaire investors, the amount of power gained in situations like this may be the best thing to happen to the club.

The days of young talents such as Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor being poached by clubs such as Bournemouth and Burnley could be gone, and Leeds may finally be able to develop their academy prospects and watch them flourish.
