Wolves make approach for Guilherme Arana

Wolves have made an approach for Atletico Mineiro left-back Guilherme Arana, according to TEAMtalk.

The Lowdown: Previous interest

According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur [via Molineux News], the Old Gold added the Brazilian defender to their transfer list back in October, ahead of the January window.

Konur claimed that Wolves had planned to “talk with Atletico MG in January” but a winter move failed to materialise and the 25-year-old remained in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

The Latest: Wolves make approach for Arana

According to a report by TEAMtalk on Friday, West Ham and Wolves have both made approaches for Arana.

Journalist Jorge Nicola has claimed that the Irons have now made contact with the left-back’s representatives, whilst TEAMtalk reported that Wolves have touched base to gain information about the defender’s situation.

The Verdict: He’d be a good signing

Whilst some Wolves fans may feel underwhelmed with being linked with a left-back playing in the Brazilian league, Arana has previously had opportunities in Europe. The 25-year-old was at Sevilla between 2018 and 2019 before heading out on loan to Atalanta for the 2019/20 season.

Internationally, Arana has been on the receiving end of strong plaudits. André Jardine, Brazil’s coach at last year’s Olympics, has heaped praise on the defender, claiming: “He is going through a spectacular phase, he was the best full-back at the last Brazilian Championship, with a great resourcefulness, defensively and offensively.”

With Arana’s indefatigable engine allowing him to bomb up and down the wing, this could be an ideal signing for Bruno Lage, who is looking to build a squad capable of improving upon this season’s 10th-place finish.

With reports suggesting that an expected offer worth €19m (£16.3m) is to come from the Premier League, Wolves could be set to sign a player who has largely gone under the radar.

Leeds: Further Rasmus Kristensen details emerge

Rasmus Kristensen looks set to sign a five-year deal with Leeds United, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The Lowdown: Kristensen talks

It looks as if the 24-year-old, who has been described as a ‘goal threat’ by RB Salzburg boss Matthias Jaissle, will become the Premier League club’s second summer signing after Brenden Aaronson.

The Whites finally managed to get a deal over the line for the American from Salzburg after having two bids turned down in January, and they look set to raid the Austrian giants once again for the right-back.

The Denmark international is due to undergo medical tests after international duty, and details of his proposed move to Yorkshire have now been shared.

The Latest: Five-year deal

Jeunes Footeux provided an update on Leeds’ move for Kristensen on Friday morning.

They claimed that the full-back will sign a five-year deal at Elland Road and will cost the Whites a total of €25m (£21.4m).

Reports have previously stated that a fee to Salzburg will come in at around £10m, so the other £11.4m seems to be his wage across the five years, which would work out at around just under £44,000 per week.

The Verdict: Perfect

Victor Orta hasn’t wasted any time in making moves for manager Jesse Marsch, which is a welcome sign given the club’s struggles for signings under Marcelo Bielsa in recent years.

Kristensen’s presence is needed in Yorkshire, especially with Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas sidelined through long-term injuries.

The Dane knows what it is like to work under Marsch after winning back-to-back league and cup doubles under the current Whites head coach at Salzburg; and with 18 goal involvements in 44 games last season for Kristensen, Leeds look like they’re about to get themselves an exciting defender.

Leeds: Italian source makes James claim

Leeds United winger Daniel James is a target for Serie A side Atalanta, according to a report from Calcio Atalanta (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Tough season

Reminiscent of the entire Leeds squad, James has endured a difficult campaign at Elland Road having made a £25million switch from Manchester United last summer when Marcelo Bielsa was still at the helm (BBC).

Overall, the young winger has directly contributed to nine goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Whites.

Despite not setting the world alight in Yorkshire, as the threat of relegation looms large ahead of the final day, there is now believed to be interest from Italy…

The latest: Atalanta make contact

As per Calcio Atalanta, translated by SW, Atalanta have already made ‘contacts with the player’ ahead of a possible summer transfer swoop.

It’s claimed that the Serie A outfit and regular UEFA Champions League participants will look to negotiate a ‘low’ fee for the 30-cap Wales ace if Leeds are relegated.

The report also states that Atalanta chief Lee Congerton has James – who was described as ‘unbelievable’ by former top-flight goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel – in his ‘notebook’ following scouting missions to the United Kingdom.

The verdict: No deal

Regardless of whether Leeds can retain their Premier League status or otherwise, the club must do everything in its power to retain the Welsh speedster.

Capable of playing across a variety of attacking positions, the £16.2million valued 24-year-old has previous experience of the Championship with Swansea and would be pivotal should the Whites face the drop, whilst also being the level of player Marsch can build a team around in order to enjoy a more fruitful season next term.

Under contract in Yorkshire until 2026 (Transfermarkt), Director of Football Victor Orta is certainly well placed to rebuff any potential suitors in the summer transfer window as Leeds either look to strengthen their ranks or retain key assets.

Spurs: Son gave Arsenal nightmares

Tottenham Hotspur bolstered their late bid for a top-four finish with an emphatic victory over arch-rivals Arsenal in the north London derby on Thursday evening.

Antonio Conte’s side moved to within one point of the ten-man Gunners in the Premier League standings and with two games left to play in the 2021/22 season, it is still somewhat out of their control.

Harry Kane ran rampant, as he often does in this fixture, with a brace which started with a spot-kick in the 22nd minute, prior to heading Spurs into a 2-0 lead before half-time.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

In between the two goals, Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding received his marching orders for a foul on Heung-min Son, who eventually added a third and arguably, he stole the show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He absolutely terrorised the 26-year-old, leading to him seeing two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes, and it would have surely given Mikel Arteta overnight.

The South Korean sensation was lauded as a “dream” by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville during commentary duty [Thursday 12th May, 21:06pm] and it’s easy to see why.

In the 72 minutes he was on the pitch, Son managed to contribute four key passes, despite only registering 17 accurate passes overall and 31 touches, meaning he recorded a decisive creative action once every four passes, as per SofaScore.

Elsewhere, the £72m-rated dynamo proved to be strong in his battles, winning five of his six duels (83%), whilst drawing a whopping five fouls and only losing possession four times, only further proving to be an utter nuisance against that Gunners backline.

‘Involved in all three goals and the sending off as he continued his superb form and moving to within a goal of Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot. The Premier League player of the run-in?,’ wrote the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick in his post-match ratings column.

Had he stayed on the pitch, Son would perhaps have bagged himself a couple more goals, but with Burnley at the weekend, he’ll be fresher than most to give another Premier League side trouble.

It was Sonny’s night in N17 on Thursday, he stole the show for Spurs to keep them firmly in the race for the top four.

Man Utd eye Lautaro Martinez transfer

Manchester United are interested in a deal for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from The Times (via The Express) who claim that Man United have now learnt the asking price for the rampant Argentine striker.

They claim that he could cost in the region of £60m to £70m this summer.

Martial upgrade

With reports stating that Ten Hag wants Martinez to lead the line next season, it gives us a good indication of how he wants his forward to play in United’s attacking line.

The 52-year-old Dutchman clearly wants his striker to possess the necessary technical attributes and work rate to help create an offensive threat. In other words, he does not want a forward who relies solely on wingers to produce chances.

Martinez, who has been described as a “machine” by reporter Roberto Rojas, serves as a major upgrade on Anthony Martial and conforms to ten Hag’s creative requirements, with his match average 3.19 shot-creating actions ideal for the Dutch tactician, as per FBref.

For starters, Martinez has proven himself as a world-class centre forward over the last three seasons having scored 18 assists in 105 appearances for Inter in Serie A.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial has netted once.

United are right to be targeting a deal for Martinez and ten Hag should instruct Rangnick to go in with an offer of around £70m in what would be an astute, future-proof move that allows the new manager to play exactly how he wants to.

In other news: Ten Hag set to make £20m “pitbull” his first MUFC signing, supporters surely buzzing – opinion…

Rangers may regret not signing Doekhi

Glasgow Rangers have endured a difficult start to the 2022/23 campaign domestically and in Europe under manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Gers are currently second in the Premiership and have already been beaten 3-0 by their arch-rivals in the first Old Firm clash of the season.

They did enjoy a sublime start to their European campaign by qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League, beating PSV 3-2 on aggregate in the play-off.

However, they have lost 4-0 to both Napoli and Ajax in their first two group matches and they now face a double-header against Liverpool, who made the final of the competition last term.

Van Bronckhorst was backed in the summer transfer window as Ross Wilson brought in a host of new signings to bolster the starting XI.

Among their fresh arrivals, Rangers signed two centre-backs to improve their options at the heart of the backline. They allowed Leon Balogun to depart on a free transfer and snapped up Ben Davies from Liverpool and John Souttar from Hearts on permanent deals.

After signing the latter, a Scotland international, it was reported that the club were in a “strong position” to sign Danilho Doekhi on a Bosman.

Instead of ending up at Ibrox, the defender secured a free transfer to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin after his contract at Vitesse came to an end.

Rangers may now regret failing to snap the 24-year-old up as he is an impressive and young central defender who could have been an excellent addition to the squad.

Thomas Letsch, his former coach, previously heaped praise on him, saying:

“He already played fantastic last year and this season he has performed at the highest level in every game. Danilho makes almost no mistakes and is an absolute team player, a very calm player. flat developed. He coaches other players very well. He is calmer than other players and perhaps that makes him less noticeable, but he is the reserve captain for a reason.”

The Union Berlin man has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.25 in the Bundesliga this season, making 5.5 tackles and interceptions per game and winning 57% of his duels. He also received a rating of 7.4 in his first Europa League appearance, making 6.0 tackles and interceptions combined and winning 80% of his battles.

This comes after he managed a rating of 7.03 in the Eredivisie for Vitesse last term across 29 appearances, which shows that he is capable of delivering consistently impressive displays.

Meanwhile, Davies has struggled with injuries and has only played once in the Premiership this term, recording a SofaScore rating of 6.90.

If the trend of this season continues and the Welshman is unable to get himself off and running, whilst Doekhi catches the eye in Germany, then Rangers may regret their actions over the summer.

Australia

Overview
Though in a bit of a transitional phase off the field after losing head coach Matthew Mott to the England men’s white-ball set-up, Australia retain an imposing squad, which has made them world-beaters for years. Two T20 World Cup titles, two Ashes series victories, and an ODI World Cup crown in the past four years, and you can bet they are hell-bent on adding the inaugural women’s Commonwealth Games gold medal to that trophy cabinet. Their depth is breath-taking, as illustrated by the fact that a player of Ellyse Perry’s calibre has for some time now been outside their first-choice T20I side.Squad

Rain-affected T20s during the Ashes series at the start of the year and more recently against Ireland and Pakistan don’t provide the best gauge, but Australia were most convincing in the matches that were completed. Tahlia McGrath stunned England with 91 not out, batting for just the third time in T20Is during their Ashes series opener. It was one of those moments when England thought they had done pretty well reaching 169 for 4 only to discover Australia had yet another trick up their sleeves and McGrath led them to a thumping nine-wicket victory. She has batted four times in the format now and been named Player of the Match in each one, most recently for her 70 off 45 balls against Ireland last week. She shared a record third-wicket stand for Australia of 135 with Meg Lanning and finally has a T20 batting average – 247.00 – after being dismissed in that match. There are few better all-round athletes in world cricket than Deandra Dottin•ICC via Getty Images

Barbados

Overview
Barbados will be making their international debut at the Commonwealth Games, as the representative country for the West Indian islands. As a multi-nation team is unable to compete at the Games, CWI intended to use the 2021 T20 Blaze as a qualification tournament to decide which nation would compete on their behalf. When the tournament was cancelled because of Covid-19, Barbados were chosen, having won the most recent competition in 2019.While it is the first time we’ll be seeing Barbados compete at the global stage, they aren’t short of experience among their squad. Seven of their 15-member squad have played international cricket, with six of them part of the West Indies squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2016. They will be led by Hayley Matthews, the 24-year-old allrounder who has been announced as Stafanie Taylor’s successor as West Indies captain.Squad

It’s hard to look past Deandra Dottin. She was the first woman to score a T20I century, she has the best T20 bowling figures for West Indies – 5 for 5 against Bangladesh at the 2018 T20 World Cup – and to top it off, she’s one of the standout fielders in the game. A natural athlete, in an alternate timeline, Dottin could have been at these games competing in another discipline – she was a junior Caribbean champion in the shot put, discus and javelin. Instead, Barbados will be grateful for her explosive presence at the top of their batting order and her readiness to put her hand up to bowl the big overs when the pressure is on. India

Overview
The towering presence of two legends – Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami – may no longer be there, but the shadow of Covid-19 is clearly still there. India are effectively a squad of 13 at the moment, and it is likely to remain that way at least for the first two group games.Missing are S Meghana, the top-order batter, and premier allrounder Pooja Vastrakar, who offers fearless and clean ball-striking in the lower order apart from bowling nippy seam-ups.In a big change, though, Harmanpreet Kaur knows she is the leader, and India don’t have to switch captains as they move between formats, like they did until the 2022 World Cup when Raj was still an active player. This is Harmanpreet’s team, and the core group of Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma all have vital roles to play if India are to challenge for a medal. Gold may be tricky – Australia, remember? – but a young team, hardened by heartbreaks of the past, are determined to carve an identity. Birmingham is another opportunity.Squad

Overview
Pakistan do not have a good history at major tournaments and have only won three out of 30 50-over World Cup matches [including a losing streak of 18 games] and seven out of 28 T20 World Cup games. They will hope the Commonwealth Games starts changing that. Theirs is a tough group, which includes Australia and India, a match that is set to be a sellout and could also play a major role in whether they advance to the knockouts. With Australia’s dominance in the women’s game, the Pakistan vs India match could effectively be a quarter-final, and history is not on Pakistan’s side. An Mbeumo repeat: Man Utd to make £52m bid for "best winger in the country"

Manchester United have been known to splash the cash in the transfer market over the last couple of years, with INEOS backing various managers in their quest.

Since the summer of 2022, over £800m has been spent on new additions at Old Trafford, but their spending has failed to catapult them to Premier League glory in recent years.

The Red Devils kept up their spending spree under Ruben Amorim during the recent summer window, with over £200m being spent on new additions to help bolster the squad.

The vast majority of the funds were injected into the attacking department, handing the manager a new infamous trio to help him in his quest for silverware at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, the hierarchy look set to continue their mammoth backing in the months ahead, resulting in numerous big-money talents being touted with transfers for the January window.

United’s hunt for new additions in the January window

With the window rapidly appearing on the horizon, United have already been heavily linked with a move for Nottingham Forest sensation Elliot Anderson this winter.

The Red Devils have been reportedly targeting a move for the 23-year-old, but it could be an expensive one, with Sean Dyche’s men currently demanding £100m for his signature.

Whilst the window is currently closed, it’s not stopped Amorim’s men from making their move, with the club already making contact with his current employers over a potential deal.

However, he’s not the only player in their sights, with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo another player that is reportedly they’re hunting for in January.

According to one Spanish outlet, Amorim’s men are set to make a €60m (£52m) bid for the Ghanaian international who’s already registered nine goal contributions in the Premier League this season.

Such a report also confirms that the Red Devils see the 25-year-old as a primary target to improve the front line, potentially linking with one talent as a result of his potential transfer.

Why United’s £52m target would be an Mbeumo repeat

During their recent summer spending spree, United forked out a staggering £71m for the services of Bryan Mbeumo, with the attacker joining from fellow Premier League side, Brentford.

Eyebrows were raised about the deal, undoubtedly because of the reported price tag, but a couple of months on, it’s safe to say it’s been a phenomenal piece of business.

The 26-year-old has already scored five times and registered one assist in his first 11 league outings, with such a tally the highest in the current first-team squad.

Within such efforts, numerous of which have been crucial, with the big-money addition scoring in the clash against Liverpool at Anfield – subsequently securing the club’s win at such a ground for the first time in nearly a decade.

However, despite his record, the hierarchy are still targeting attacking reinforcements, which could lead to their pursuit of Semenyo in the months ahead.

The similarities are there for all to see, with both players operating in wide roles, but often wanting to cut inside onto their favoured foot – Semenyo going so from the left, whilst Mbeumo features off the right.

Like the Cameroonian, the Ghanian has been the shining light for a less-established top-flight club, which could see the Cherries star make his own step to a “big six” outfit.

When comparing their respective stats from the ongoing season, Semenyo has managed to outperform him in numerous key areas, showcasing how much of a sensational addition he would be.

The 25-year-old, who’s been labelled “the best winger in the country” by Chris Waddle, has already racked up more combined goals and assists – arguably being a more threatening option in the final third.

His underlying figures also highlight his quality in 2025/26, with Semenyo even registering a higher shot on target accuracy rate – making him a more all-round option in attacking areas.

He’s also completed more dribbles per 90, along with a higher success rate – further highlighting his quality with the ball at his feet, but Semenyo’s talents don’t end there.

The winger has dominated out of possession, winning more duels and more aerial battles, which could make him the perfect option for Amorim at Old Trafford.

£52m would be another huge investment from the hierarchy, but it’s a transfer that would add further firepower to the club’s already potent attacking department.

Given the success of Mbeumo since his own transfer, the hierarchy should be all over a deal for Semenyo, with the forward one of the most in-demand players in the division at present.

Evolução do Vasco no segundo tempo

— A torcida é fundamental, nosso melhor jogador sempre.

Mentalidade do elenco cruz-maltino

— O mental dos jogadores está em dia. A própria derrota contra o Atlético-MG, embora atípica, faz parte do roteiro da semana.

Favoritismo do Fluminense

Mudança no calendário

Meio-campo do Vasco

He’s “like Reijnders”: Old Trafford chiefs pushing Man Utd to sign “elite” star

Some at Old Trafford are now reportedly pushing Manchester United to sign a young midfield star who’s been likened to Tijjani Reijnders.

Paul Scholes urges Mainoo to leave Man Utd

The biggest headlines surrounding Man United this week have been stolen by Ruben Amorim’s decision to overlook Kobbie Mainoo once against West Ham United.

The Red Devils dropped points yet again in a game that they should be winning with their European ambitions in mind and Mainoo was forced to watch on from the bench.

What is certainly not a good sign for the young midfielder is that Amorim simply laughed off suggestions that he could turn to Mainoo following a frustrating result against West Ham. And that reaction sparked another from club legend Paul Scholes, who urged the academy graduate to leave on social media.

He took to Instagram to say: “Bulls**t. The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football. Hate seeing home grown players leave but it’s probably best for him now. Enough is enough.”

A new Amad: Man Utd could sign "one of the best LWs in Europe" in swap deal

Manchester United are plotting a sensational deal for this exciting winger who could be Ruben Amorim’s next Amad Diallo.

Historically speaking, Man United have always been able to turn towards an academy graduate even in their most difficult moments. Amorim, however, is at risk of bringing such an impressive record to an end unless he hands Mainoo some much-needed opportunities.

The manager stood in the way of his exit in the summer, telling him to fight for his place, but Mainoo hasn’t received the chance to do exactly that ever since.

Now, Old Trafford chiefs are reportedly pushing Man United to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi which could all but spell the end for Mainoo’s time at his boyhood club.

Old Trafford chiefs push Man Utd to sign Bouaddi

According to Foot Mercato, as relayed by Caught Offside, Man Utd’s recruitment chiefs are now pushing them to sign Bouaddi in 2026, making their interest in the Frenchman concrete.

The LOSC Lille star is one of the best young midfielders around and could offer Amorim the quality that he is yet to personally see from Mainoo.

The Red Devils aren’t alone in the race to sign the 18-year-old, however, with Premier League rivals Arsenal among the other clubs chasing his signature ahead of next year.

According to Como scout Ben Mattinson, Bouaddi is “like Reijnders” and has the press resistance of an “elite” player despite still being just 18 years old. If Man United are looking for a permanent midfield solution, then the French teenager may well be their answer.
