4,5
Pratto
A fase ruim do argentino parece interminável.

Rangers fans slam Barisic vs Lyon

Some Glasgow Rangers fans were left slamming the display of Borna Barisic in their 1-1 draw away at Lyon in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.

The Croatia international was guilty of some poor defending for the Ligue 1 team’s equaliser, allowing Rayan Cherki to cut inside far too easily before failing to stop his attempted cross, which eventually went in off of Calvin Bassey.

Nonetheless, he would have felt that he could have done much better at times throughout the game, as he lost out on three of his duels in total, and also failed to record a single interception, key pass or accurate cross from left-back (SofaScore).

The 29-year-old was also guilty of losing possession of the ball on far too many occasions throughout the match, 15 times in all, the most out of any of his teammates (SofaScore).

These members of the Ibrox faithful slammed his performance on Twitter, with one Light Blues supporter even going as far as to claim that he is ‘hopeless’:

Tottenham urged to secure new Lloris deal

Tottenham Hotspur have been told that it would be ‘massive’ to tie down skipper Hugo Lloris to a new contract.

Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan was discussing the goalkeeper’s future with Football Insider.

The lowdown

Lloris’ Tottenham contract is due to expire at the end of the current season, but the publication have reported that talks are now underway over an extension.

The 34-year-old wants to pen a new multi-year agreement, and Spurs are keen to keep him. The Frenchman’s present deal sees him take home £100,000 per week, making him one of the six highest earners at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

His contract may be the club’s immediate priority, with every other senior star committed until at least 2023 aside from initial loan signings Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini.

The latest

Whelan confessed himself surprised at the news from a Spurs source that talks were underway, having been under the impression that Spurs were looking for a replacement. However, he feels that it’s the right move, given that Lloris is still ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’ in his view.

The BBC pundit told Football Insider: “I think it’d be a huge plus, it really would be. For the past year and a half, we’ve been thinking that he’s going to go on a free, is he going to go to another club? Are they looking for successors to take his place?

“Wherever you mention Hugo Lloris’ name, he stands out as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. To tie him down would be a massive signing. Good goalkeepers like that are very hard to come by, they really are.”

Whelan also feels that agreeing a new deal with Lloris would send a message to the club’s other star players. He said: “The fact that he loves the club, has been there such a long time. It would just be a sign to the other players that they’ll do anything to keep the best players at the club.

“There’s no doubt about it. He’s a leader, he’s been the captain for Tottenham Hotspur as well. That to me is crucial.

“If they can manage to do that, that would show massive progress and an indication that they mean business.”

The verdict

Whelan may have seen a report from The Telegraph last month suggesting that Spurs were lining up an heir to Lloris in the form of Everton’s Jordan Pickford.

Could that be considered a downgrade? The Frenchman is comfortably out-performing his English peer in the shot-stopping metrics this season, having ‘prevented’ 0.8 expected goals while Pickford has conceded three more than he ‘should’ have (via FBRef).

What’s more, the Toffees netminder has an averaged one error leading to an opposition goal every 12.6 games in his Premier League career, compared to every 16.5 games for Lloris.

Perhaps Spurs have recognised that, as long as Lloris continues to deliver, it’s wise to stick by him. It’s little wonder that Whelan has talked him up so enthusiastically.

Southern Rocks escape defeat against Mashonaland

A round-up from the eighth round of the Logan Cup

Cricinfo staff07-Dec-2009Southern Rocks clung on for a draw against top-of-the-table Mashonaland Eagles in a rain-inflicted match at Masvingo Sports Club. After rain had washed out the opening days play, visiting captain Elton Chigumbura won the toss and chose to field. At 154-5 it looked a good decision but the Southern Rocks lower order rallied with 47 from Thomas Odoyo and a maiden first-class fifty from 20-year-old Tendai Chitongo. Chitongo hit eight fours and two sixes in a patiently compiled 66 before he was out to the left-arm spin of Ray Price. Price finished with 3 for 57 from 20.1 overs but Trevor Garwe was the pick of the Mashonaland bowlers, taking 4 for 59.When their turn came to bat Mashonaland wasted no time racking up an imposing score. Opener Tafadzwa Mufambisi made 58 before Gregory Lamb and Forster Mutizwa weighed in with hundreds to pile the pressure on the home side. Mitizwa (113) was the more aggressive of the two, hitting 12 boundaries and a six, while Lamb (106), who has played county cricket with Hampshire, hit seven boundaries in his 183-ball stay. Chigumbura (84) and Regis Chakabva (53) rammed home the advantage as the Eagles took a 191-run lead. With under a day to survive Southern Rocks should have been comfortable and but by the end of their 15th over had lost four wickets for 47, including captain Steve Tikilo, bowled by Douglas Hondo for 2. A patient stand between Craig Ervine and Erick Chauluka used up a crucial 13 overs but when they fell in quick succession, followed by two more wickets soon after, it looked as though Mashonaland had secured the game. Yet the ninth-wicket partnership of wicketkeeper Alester Maregwede (21 not out) and Tendai Chisoro (2 not out) resolutely defended, blocking out 81 deliveries, to ensure Southern Rocks a share of the spoils.Rain was the deciding factor between Mountaineers and Matabeleland Tuskers at Mutare Sports Club. Matabeleland Tuskers were asked to bat on a damp first morning and stumbled to 89 for 4 before Gavin Ewig and Keith Dabengwa fought back to take them to 138 without any further loss by the close of day one.Ewig moved on to a rapid 58 from 53 balls on day two, before he became the second of three run-outs in the innings claimed by Shingirai Masakadza. From 143 for 4 Matabeleland crashed to 195 all out in the space of 22.5 overs as Timycen Maruma took 4 for 30 with his offspin.Mountaineers’ reply spanned two rain-interrupted days, with solid contributions from the entire top six ensuring that they had the better of the match. Tatenda Taibu compiled a patient 58 and captain Hamilton Masakadza a bright 79 from 105 balls but it was Maruma who lit up the final day, with 59 from just 36 balls, in an innings that included three sixes and five fours. He was matched almost stroke-for-stroke by Stuart Matsikenyeri, who struck six fours in his 36-ball 49, before he was trapped in front by Keegan Meth. The draw kept Mountaineers second, behind the Eagles, at the top of the table while the Tuskers remain second from the bottom.

Carille “desatou as mãos” no segundo tempo.

Celtic handed Mikey Johnston injury boost

After securing a 2-1 victory over Ross County in the Premiership in midweek, Celtic are up against Hibernian in the League Cup final on Sunday to try and secure their first trophy of the season.

Leading up to the showdown at Hampden Park, it seems as though Ange Postecoglou’s side have been handed a potential injury boost which will have a lot of fans feeling thrilled and could help the team secure the trophy on offer.

What’s the news?

According to the Daily Record, Mikey Johnston was involved in Celtic’s recent training session on Friday and will be “in contention” to be involved in tomorrow’s final.

A product of the club’s youth system, he has made 74 senior appearances for the Bhoys across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in the process.

This season has seen the 22-year-old make 15 appearances for Celtic across all competitions but only two starts, struggling with his fitness at the start of the campaign.

Given how the Daily Record said that Kyogo Furuhashi, James Forrest, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Albian Ajeti and Jota were not involved in Friday’s training session, it seems a good time for Johnston to make his return to action and help his side beat Hibs.

The winger’s previous league appearance for Celtic saw him rack up five shots at goal and make two key passes in 60 minutes of action in their 1-0 win over Motherwell last week, showing how dangerous he can be from the left-wing.

Johnston has shown in his 10 league appearances in this season that he can be a useful attacking asset for the team by averaging 1.9 shots and one key pass per game. Also, with Adam Montgomery failing to impress in the win over Ross County, this could persuade Postecoglou to start the 22-year-old winger on Sunday if he is fully fit.

If Johnston does start tomorrow and can deliver a solid performance in helping Celtic to win the League Cup, this could kickstart a regular run of games in the team for him and prove to his manager that he has the quality to do so after a false start to the season much to the delight of the Parkhead faithful.

Walter sente lesão, Jô quase vai para o gol e garoto assume vaga no Timão

MatériaMais Notícias

O goleiro Walter vive outro drama no Corinthians.

Clare Taylor looking to make a new life in New Zealand

England’s top One-Day International wicket-taker and appearance maker Clare Taylor says she still has lots to offer, even at the age of 37

Matthew Appleby25-Dec-2009England’s top One-Day International wicket-taker and appearance maker Clare Taylor says she still has lots to offer, even at the age of 37.At the top of England’s batting averages, which “possibly puts our tournament into perspective,” tail-ender Taylor, the oldest player at Lincoln, still opens England’s bowling 14 years after her debut. In New Zealand since November, the medium-paced seamer hopes to emigrate after completing a year’s teacher-training course beginning in September. She has an honorary MA from Hull University and a degree in Geography.”I quite like the lifestyle and the people are absolutely brilliant. That’s the long-term plan after cricket.”Not that she plans to retire soon.”At 37 I don’t really think I should still be playing a part in the team, some of the youngsters have really got to take it by the scruff of the neck and say ‘I want your place, I’m good enough, I want your place and I’m going to take it’. It’s great for me, but I feel for the state of the English game that the youngsters need to take it on a bit more and say I want your place rather for me to say I’ll call it a day.”Opening the batting for Otago, Taylor is topping the averages.”It’s just good to be out here in the middle getting bat on ball rather than in the nets in snow-bound Huddersfield.”The “usual suspects” have performed in the tournament, though England’s squad has been together for two years since the World Cup, “its perhaps a little frustrating that we haven’t really gone on.”Taylor, who gave up working for the Royal Mail after 14 years to play for Otago and England in 2002/03, she said she’s not going to be playing cricket for too much longer, but still played a key role in the World Series of Women’s Cricket this January and February at Lincoln, and is set to lead England’s attack in two Tests against Australia later this month.”If we come off the back of this tournament with two good wins under our belts (against India) it will lift the girls, especially the batters and make them feel that they can do it.”I think all we’re looking for is belief. The Kiwis have got it and the Aussies have got it in abundance and I think that’s all we’re lacking – we’re not lacking in talent, it’s turning that talent into runs out on the pitch in the big games, rather than just against lesser teams.”With Australia the pre-eminent team in cricket, Taylor is realistic about the task ahead. She is one of the usual suspects who have performed at Lincoln, along with Australia’s Belinda Clark, Karen Rolton and the pacy 100-wicket woman Cathryn Fitzpatrick.”You can imagine Fitzy coming steaming in and trying allsorts, but we’re going to stand solid and see what happens.”Taylor has some of the Australian self-belief, something many of her England colleagues clearly lack.”If I could bottle it, it would be worth a bloody fortune. Week in week out I’ve been training with them and I don’t know what it is, perhaps a psychologist could help. I don’t know whether it’s the British mentality.”An analogy I made it was like the British are driving along and the car goes below a quarter of a tank they panic.”We don’t want to run out of petrol, we’re very conservative, while the Aussies and the Kiwis will probably drive a car until it runs out of petrol, ‘she’ll be right mate, you know, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.’ In fact, I asked most of the girls if they’d ever run out of petrol and they said no.”Erring on the side of caution, it’s the British mentality, whereas the Aussies and Kiwis are more laid-back in their lifestyles and more laid back in their cricket and that’s how they get their results. Perhaps we’re a bit in fear of failure.”I find it a bit strange that in the nets everyone bats really well and goes for their shots and don’t seem to have any inhibitions. It seems when we go out into the middle we perhaps go into our shells a little bit.”She said England’s top 48-player Super Fours tournament is giving the game a boost in quality, “because it’s a big leap from county to international level.”I don’t think we’ve gone backwards, because the guy we’ve got on board now, John Harmer, he’s the top guy, he’s guided the Aussies too, I just love listening to him, hang on his every word, because he makes it all sound so simple.”While Taylor has had to work throughout her career until this season, many of the England players have started to make a living from the game.”The money’s there. The ECB’s been backing us to the hilt and a lot of the girls have got lottery funding as well, so financially there’s no constraints to how much training and practice you can do and with John, you’ve got the guy who’s top of the shop in his field. So you’ve got to look at the individual players and it comes back to self-belief.”Starting playing aged 23, Taylor was inspired by Ian Botham’s mentality. She has starred in Yorkshire’s phenomenal 11 wins out of 12 in the County Championship. Known as Romper, Taylor is now an MBE for services to cricket. She made her ODI debut in the 1988/89 World Cup in Australia and was second top wicket taker in the 2000/01 tournament in New Zealand.Taylor has played 90 ODIs for England at this stage of the World Series and is the first English player to approach 100 wickets.A former soccer player, Taylor, from Huddersfield, became a Sport England sporting ambassador in 1998, promoting healthy lifestyles among the young.”You’ve got to give it your best shot, you can’t go in half-hearted. You’ve got to have the belief you can do it and perhaps if a few more of us have that Botham mentality then we’ll be fine.”
