Spurs fans can’t believe Traore update

Flocking to Twitter, many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left speechless following an update on their attempted pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore.

The Lilywhites targeted Nuno Espirito Santo’s former favourite at Molineux during the latter stages of the summer transfer window, with some reports suggesting that a bid had been lodged.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-news-2/” title=”Spurs latest news…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Traore’s price tag dropped by well over half this summer, coming down to €40m (£34.1m) according to Diario AS – a far cry from the €100m (£85.3m) figure mooted by Fabrizio Romano in 2020 (Calciomercato).

However, despite this major discount on a player who completed the most dribbles per game in the Premier League last year, reporter John Percy of The Telegraph (via Tottenham Tiers) has now lifted the lid on a very lowly Spurs summer offer.

Indeed, the reliable reporter claims that Daniel Levy, Fabio Paratici and co lodged an initial bid of just £5m and a loan move for the season, with the offer including no option to buy.

Flocking to this news, which one supporter called ’embarrassing’, it’s safe to say that plenty of Lilywhites have erupted at the club over this apparent offer for the Spain winger.

Check out some of their best verdicts from Twitter below.

Batsman Neil Broom is the only new face in the 13-man New Zealand side to take on West Indies in the first two ODIs of the five-match series. Broom, 25, will be replacing Scott Styris, who broke a thumb in the first Twenty20 against the West Indies on Boxing Day.Broom, a right-hander who plays for Otago in the domestic competitions, has scored 1150 runs in 43 domestic one-day matches at 34.84.Head of the selection panel, Glenn Turner, said Broom had shown his potential as an international batsman this year. “Neil performed well with the bat in Australia and India with the Emerging Players and New Zealand A sides,” Turner said. “He’s also been scoring a lot of runs in the State Championship this summer.””He’s shown that he’s a good, clean striker of the ball and that’s what we were looking for, particularly in that six or seven slot,” Turner said. “You’ve got to have the flexibility in limited-overs cricket where the middle order, in particular, can be moved around according to the situation, and that gives us options.”The squad contains two more changes from the Twenty20 side with Grant Elliott and Jamie How recalled to the team, as James Franklin and Ewen Thompson miss out. While How played in the two-Test series against West Indies and was part of the squad in their last ODI series, a 2-1 win away to Bangladesh, Grant Elliot has been an on-and-off feature in the side. Dropped for the Tests at home against West Indies, his last one-dayer was against Scotland in July in Aberdeen. However, Elliott’s recall to the national side comes after solid performances for Wellington in domestic cricket, including a 3 for 32 in the State Shield one-day competition, and scores of 63 and 78 in his two latest four-day outings in the State Championship.”Grant gives us options with both bat and ball,” Turner said. “He can come in down the order and push the ball around – and also offers a good bowling option with his medium-paced swing.”A notable absentee from the list was medium-pacer Iain O’Brien, who impressed during the recent two-Test series against West Indies. Turner said he needed to prove himself in domestic one-day matches. “He’s never been regarded as a one-day player and the way that he used to bowl, he was considered to be a bit loose for one-dayers,” Turner said. “But the reality is now we have to relook at him because he has obviously improved himself considerably.”He may well be a serious consideration for ODIs in the future but he needs to play some cricket for Wellington in the shield. He has to show he’s able to apply the improvement he’s shown at Test level in the one-dayers.”The first ODI is in Queenstown on Wednesday, and the second will be played in Christchurch on January 3. Broom said he was a “wee bit nervous”. “I’ve sort of been dreaming about this day for the last couple of years and to be named is awesome,” he told the . ”But I’m playing for Otago again [on Monday], so I’ll get a bit more batting in then, and I’m looking forward to Queenstown.”New Zealand ODI squad: Daniel Vettori (capt), Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, Daniel Flynn, Mark Gillespie, Jamie How, Brendon McCullum (wk), Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor

Celtic: Ramon Vega’s reps contact Hoops

Ramon Vega’s representatives have contacted Celtic over a possible return to Parkhead, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Lowdown: McKay’s exit

Dominic McKay left his role as CEO earlier this month after just 72 days in the role.

Celtic cited personal reasons for his departure, however, it has since emerged that he could have jumped before he was pushed in regards to his position at the club.

Michael Nicholson is in temporary charge, however, Vega was tipped as one of five candidates to replace McKay, and it seems as if the former Hoops defender has taken the first steps over a possible return.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-13/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Contact made

The Scottish Sun shared a story late on Friday evening regarding Vega.

They claimed that the 50-year-old’s representatives have been in touch about the vacancy at Celtic Park following McKay’s exit.

Vega wants to become the club’s new chief executive and has thrown his hat in the ring.

The Verdict: A shrewd move?

With Vega reportedly keen on making a Celtic return, it could make sense for Parkhead chiefs to explore his credentials to potentially replace McKay in the long run.

Since retiring as a player, Vega has been in business and has also worked as an adviser to a number of clubs.

He’s set up his own management company and even attempted to land a senior role within FIFA two years ago, so talking to the ex-defender could be a smart move.

Jogar no Independência é sempre difícil – disse.

O Santos deve ir a campo com: Vanderlei; Daniel Guedes (Victor Ferraz), Lucas Veríssimo, David Braz e Jean Mota; Leandro Donizete, Thiago Maia e Vecchio; Bruno Henrique, Thiago Ribeiro e Kayke.

Com 20 pontos, o Alvinegro está na 4ª colocação do Brasileirão, enquanto o Atlético-MG tem 17 e está em 9º.

Dainty upbeat about USA's future

Gladstone Dainty, the president of the USACA, told the association’s annual general meeting in New York that there was no truth the ICC were reviewing the operation of USACA and that there was any question of another suspension

Cricinfo staff26-Jan-2009Gladstone Dainty, the president of the USACA, told the association’s annual general meeting in New York that there was no truth the ICC were reviewing the operation of USACA and that there was any question of another suspension.Dainty, speaking under the watchful eyes of Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, and IS Bindra, the ICC’s special advisor, insisted the the ICC was “happy we are all getting along” and that there was a general air of stability. Behind the scenes, the ICC are believed to be concerned that almost one year after the implementation of a new constitution and fresh elections, the post of chief executive remains unfilled.Dainty, however, said that the ICC appreciated that the process could not be hurried and that 41 applications had been received of which 20 were considered to be credible. Five had been asked to interview and the appointment would be announced after that. The question of how the full-time CEO would be paid for also arose, with John Thickett, the USACA treasurer, admitting the organisation was far from well off. The post would be covered from increased ICC funding and other local initiatives.Thickett added that third parties had approached USACA with a view to staging international matches in the USA and these proposals were being examined.Speaking on behalf of the ICC, Martin Viera, the Americas development officer, called on the US to up its expansion of the game as it compared unfavourably with Canada and Bermuda. He concluded by urging USACA to explore non-ICC funding options including government and corporate funding.

WHU fans want to sign Mohamed Bayo

According to The Sun, West Ham United are interested in signing Mohamed Bayo from Clermont Foot.

The Lowdown: Lack of depth upfront

Michail Antonio has had a fantastic start to the 2021/22 campaign, scoring six goals in just six matches in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, he is the only forward David Moyes has at his disposal after the Hammers failed to bring in another striker during the summer transfer window, leaving the Irons short on depth with four competitions on deck this season.

The Latest: Hammers eye Bayo

As per this latest report, the Irons are looking to bring in Bayo from Clermont.

Aged 23, the Ligue 1 outfit are looking for £10m to part ways with the Guinea international, but the forward’s departure to the Africa Cup of Nations in January may make things difficult.

The Verdict: New blood needed

Antonio’s performances for West Ham show he has what it takes to lead the line. He is the club’s record goalscorer in the Premier League with 51 strikes, with 26 coming in the last three terms, including this one.

However, given he has missed 26 games in the top flight over the past two full campaigns, Moyes can expect to lose him for parts of the term.

The lack of an adequate replacement will cause them problems, but Bayo could fill that hole.

In his last 71 matches, he has 40 goals, and has already found the back of the net four times in seven outings in Ligue 1 this time out. At 6 foot 2 he is a beast in the air, noted for his strong finishing and heading prowess by Whoscored, and so could offer a slightly different option to Antonio as a traditional target man and poacher.

£10m is hardly a huge fee either, and he could be exactly what Moyes needs if wants to continue to surf the crest of this West Ham wave.

In other news, the Hammers are looking at this Premier League striker.

Jacob Oram, the New Zealand allrounder, has said he has recovered from his Achilles tendon injury sustained during the ODI series at home against West Indies, which kept him out of the recent one-dayers against Australia. Hoping to get back to full fitness ahead of the home series against India, Oram said he will be playing as a batsman in Central Districts’ Twenty20 clash with Otago on Friday.Oram, though, was keen to resume his bowling duties as well. “Would I have got eight years [in the national side] if I had stuck with just batting?” he told the New Zealand daily, the . “I don’t want to do that. It’s like asking someone to do half the job. I’m not a batsman, I’m an allrounder, and I’m enjoying what I’m doing.”I fully agree that the best way to stay injury-free is to do it [bowl] as soon as you pick a ball up. Then your body adapts to the rigours of bowling. I didn’t really put it in until my early 20s and that’s pretty late to start bowling.”The 30-year-old Oram said his tendon was close to being 100% repaired after a slow build-up in the gym. “If I left it any longer, the Indian series would be gone and the season would be a write-off,” he said. “I’m confident I will be OK.”Oram said that over the last five weeks, he had given the injury some time to settle down and worked on strengthening the calf before resuming bowling. Oram admitted that getting injured so often was frustrating, but said he had learned to cope. “I wouldn’t say it ever gets easy, but I am so used to it now, I don’t get too upset.”Oram has suffered a few injuries lately, starting with a back problem during the Test series in Bangladesh in October, which also ruled him out of the two-Test series in Australia in November. He then fractured a finger while turning out for Central Districts in the State Championship in the last week of November. A calf strain kept him out of the two-Test series at home against West Indies, and was followed by the Achilles tendon problem during the subsequent ODI series.”Those are the cards you’ve been dealt,” Oram said. The series against India will extend from February 22 to April 7, and comprises two Twenty20 internationals, five ODIs and three Tests.
