At the time the move was greeted with surprise as CSA had been staunch supporters of Peter Chingoka and his board.While Arendse was openly critical of the situation inside Zimbabwe, other senior officials have steadfastly backed the Chingoka regime and have gone to great lengths to help Zimbabwe’s young players get as much exposure to quality cricket as possible.It is now believed that CSA will reconsider the decision when it meets on October 11 and it is quite possible that bilateral ties will be resumed almost immediately. The power-sharing agreement between Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangarai, assuming that it holds, makes a restoration of relations all the more likely.It is generally believed that any such about-turn will come too late for Zimbabwe to be admitted to South Africa’s provincial competitions in 2008-09, although they could be squeezed into the MTN Domestic Championship and Standard Bank Pro20.

Evening Standard football writer Jack Rosser believes that with Kurt Zouma joining West Ham, Chelsea will be very confident of completing the signing of Jules Kounde. 

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on his Twitter account that Sevilla President Castro said: “Kounde is our player, as of now. There’s nothing agreed or done at the moment. We always consider the offers. But the days are ending.” 

Romano also posted that Chelsea are still confident and a final bid is ready once Kurt Zouma to West Ham is completed.

Kounde has played twice for Sevilla this season in La Liga which has seen the La Liga outfit win both their opening matches against Rayo Vallecano and Getafe and also, they have kept two clean sheets in the process.

Rosser believes that Chelsea are confident of getting the Kounde deal completed with Zouma moving to West Ham, telling Transfer Tavern: “Yeah, I’ve not followed that one too closely but moving Zouma on that has been to bring Kounde in is why they’ve done it.

“So that would point to the fact that they’re very confident that they’ll get that one over the line and will only improve what’s already a very tight defence.”

If Kounde does join Chelsea, then he will become the clubs third signing of the summer window after Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Bettinelli both put pen to paper on deals at Stamford Bridge.

David Morgan, the ICC president, has termed the deal “quite unacceptable behaviour”, and Morris is concerned it could damage the long-term health of the game.”The guys who control the purse strings are now showing they have the potential to make or break a Test series in another country,” Morris told the . “We [England] are on the outside at the moment, and the Indian board have simply decided to devalue this series for their own ends.”It’s not long since the Indians, and everybody else, sat down at an International Cricket Council meeting and promised to protect Test cricket. Now they’re threatening other countries’ Test contracts.”Sri Lanka’s tour is due to run from April 21 to May 30, while the IPL is scheduled for April 10-May 29. Yet, so lucrative are the IPL contracts, that Sri Lanka’s high-profile players are unlikely to be persuaded to honour the England tour.”Next year is the busiest year ever,” Morris said. “The players don’t want to be turning up for games that aren’t the best against the best. This situation needs to be managed very carefully because devalued series are damaging for everybody – players, boards, broadcasters, spectators, you name it. You can start to see Test series being relegated to the second tier of importance and getting blown out of the water by domestic tournaments.”We’ve argued for a long time that the IPL need a window in the schedule to prevent this sort of thing happening. The whole Future Tours Programme has to be overhauled.”

O volante que a diretoria quer dar a Rogério Ceni é Petros, que já acertou as bases de seu contrato com o São Paulo e depende apenas de o Betis aceitar a oferta feita para ser anunciado. Mas os dirigentes abriram o leque de opções e chegaram a procurar o volante Lucio Compagnucci, argentino que joga no Huracán.

O jogador de 21 anos foi procurado por um representante do São Paulo para saber a sua situação. Ele é dono de seus direitos econômicos e tem mais um ano de contrato com o Huracán. Mostrou-se disposto a negociar, mas nenhuma proposta oficial foi feita a ele.

Compagnucci informou a esse representante do Tricolor que, caso ainda haja interesse do clube, vai negociar somente no final do mês. O meio-campista prefere manter seu foco na busca do Huracán para evitar o rebaixamento no Campeonato Argentino.

Independentemente da vontade do jogador, o que ele recebeu não foi mais do que uma sondagem. A diretoria tem trabalhado com mais opções no mercado – foi assim que encontrou o zagueiro equatoriano Robert Arboleda, por exemplo – e recebeu boas informações de Compagnucci, formado no Vélez Sarsfield e com passagem pelas categorias de base da seleção argentina.

Depois de não conseguir acertar com Fernando Bob, da Ponte Preta, no início do mês – o Tricolor se recusou a arcar com uma dívida do Inter, dono dos direitos econômicos do jogador -, o foco total da busca por um volante está em Petros. E a negociação avançou após o Palmeiras desistir do jogador para trazer Bruno Henrique, do Palermo.

Petros quer voltar a morar no Brasil para casar com sua namorada e, com o interesse do São Paulo, pediu para seu empresário nem negociar mais com clubes de Espanha e Itália que mostraram interesse. Ele acertou as bases do contrato e o Tricolor fez oferta próxima dos 2,5 milhões de euros (mais de R$ 9 milhões) que o Betis desejava inicialmente por 50% de seus direitos. Basta o clube espanhol aceitá-la para o meio-campista virar atleta do time do Morumbi.

A busca por um volante se justifica pela saída de João Schmidt, que já acertou com Atalanta, da Itália. A diretoria também perdeu o atacante Luiz Araújo, vendido ao Lille, da França, e já trouxe neste mês os atacantes Maicosuel e Denilson e, além de Petros, está bem próximo de anunciar o zagueiro Robert Arboleda, da seleção equatoriana e da Universidad Católica de Quito. O clube ainda busca um meia e outro velocista para reforçar o elenco de Rogério Ceni.

England coach Peter Moores wants his team to be more aggressive against India in the second ODI in Indore on Monday. England were thrashed by 158 runs in the series opener in Rajkot after their bowlers conceded 387 runs, highest total against England in ODIs.”We thought we were a bit tentative in the way we played [in Rajkot] and could have been more aggressive in everything we did,” Moores said. “I think we can be more aggressive as a unit and not wait for the game to take shape – we actually go and make it [take shape]. We have to remind ourselves how we play our brand of cricket and play that brand of cricket in different places.”We played some really good one-day cricket towards the end of our English summer against South Africa and we want to make sure we go out and back ourselves to play that sort of cricket out here in India – they are slightly different conditions but it’s still a 50-over game and simple basics still apply.”The defeat in the first one-dayer followed a humiliating loss against a Mumbai XI – England were dismissed for 98 – in a warm-up match. Fast bowler Steve Harmison also said that it was vital to pick up momentum as soon as possible to avoid a massive series defeat.”What some of those who have been here [in India] before wanted to make clear to those who maybe haven’t is that, as a team and as individuals, we have got to find our game pretty damn quick,” Harmison was quoted as saying by the . “If we don’t, with them playing unbelievable cricket, we are in danger of being on the end of a good thumping.”If any of the less experienced boys didn’t realise how hard our task was going to be out here before Friday, they certainly do now. Former Premier League star Dean Windass thinks that Jesse Lingard could leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The attacking midfielder was heavily linked with a return to West Ham United in the summer window, having spent the second half of last season on loan at the London Stadium.

However, the Hammers were not able to strike a deal with United to bring him into the London Stadium and ultimately signed Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow instead.

Lingard could see his opportunities at United further limited by the sensational signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, with the Portugal international likely to hit the ground running given his status as one of the best players of all time.

And Windass thinks that United and Lingard will reassess the situation in the January transfer window.

Thus far this term, the England international has played just four minutes of Premier League football, as he came off the bench in the draw with Southampton.

Windass told Football FanCast: “I think that’s what the discussions will be, ‘let’s wait until January, see what your attitude’s like, if you get in the team then go and prove me wrong, come off the bench’.”
